Some interesting stats obtained from playing with excel during the summer break.
Player stats
Games started to games won
HOME
Best
(played in 5 games or more): Paul Hungtinton, 60% (3 in 5)
(played in 10 games or more): Steven Taylor, 55% (6 in 11)
Worst
(5 games or more): Craig Moore, 14% (1 in 7) (Craig got to taste postmatch joy against Wigan. Current status: OOT!)
10 games or more: Steven Carr, 17% (2 in 12) That means the Toon managed to win 5 of the 7 games he didn't start in. Surely Sam's team of statisticians will be able to work something out from that!
AWAY
Best
(5 games or more): Babayaro, 40% (2 in 5)
(10 games or more): Shay Given, 36% (4 in 11) We only managed 4 away wins all season. Martins (16 starts) and Milner (17 starts) were the only others who started in all 4 wins.
Worst
5 games or more: With 0% big round of applause to both Stephen Harper (7 starts) and Titus Bramble (5 starts). Titus will adding precisely nothing to Wigan next season instead. Harper will continue to keep Shay's spare gloves warm.
10 games or more: Scott Parker, 15% (2 in 13). Now a Hammer. Hopefully replacement Barton will provide the grit needed to pick up a few more points away from home.
TOTAL (home and away)
Best
10 games or more: Babayaro, 50%. Yes, of the 12 games that the much maligned Baba started, we actually won 6 of them (Wigan, Reading, Watford and Liverpool at home, and West Ham and Blackburn away)
20 games or more: Given, 41%, 9 wins from 22 starts, 5/11 home and 4/11 away.
Worst
10 games or more: Harper, 13%, 2 wins in his 15 match run in the side.
20 games or more: Stephen Carr, 17%, 23 starts, only 4 wins home and away...
Some more obvious stats
Top goalscorer: Obafemi Martins, 11 goals in 32 starts (5/16 home, 6/16 away)
Scored most first goals: Dyer, 4 times in his 20 starts.
Scored most last goals: Martins, 4 times.
Most starts: Martins, 32
Most starts home: Martins, 16
Most starts away: Milner, 17

Notice we were much more below the average on 2nd half goals scored compared to 1st half goals scored. Stamina/fitness issue for Roeder's boys?
Points won at HT: 45 (league avg 48.55)
Points won by FT: 43 (league avg 52.1)
So we dropped 2 pts over the season overall in the 2nd half. The avg for the league was to gain 3.55. Champions Man Utd gained 22 pts when comparing first half pts to second half. Worst second half performers were Wigan, who dropped 12 points.
